On the nonexistence of large amplitude stationary solitary waves in symmetric unmagnetized pair plasmas 1Sterrenkundig Observatorium, Universiteit Gent, Krijgslaan 281, B–9000 Gent, Belgium 2School of Physics (Howard College Campus), University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban 4041, South Africa Abstract. Waves in pair plasmas have a fundamentally different dispersion due to the equal charge-to-mass ratios between negative and positive charges. In view of possible applications e.g. to electron-positron and fullerene pair plasmas, it is shown that there are no stationary large amplitude nonlinear structures in symmetric unmagnetized pair plasmas.
